So they finally approved stevia…well, sort of

I’ve been using stevia to sweeten my food for years. It’s great stuff, with a long and safe history throughout much of the World. But for a very long time the FDA refused to approve it as a food ingredient, so it was sold in health food stores as a “supplement”. Well, the FDA still hasn’t “approved” it, but they HAVE finally granted it GRAS (generally regarded as safe) status… probably at the behest of the large companies who are now marketing it as if it were something new.

While it’s nice to see things like Truvia™ hitting the stores, I don’t recognize all the ingredients in it’s list, so I think I’ll be sticking with my pure stevia from the healthfood store… at least for now.
